Zara Consulting Group empowers organizations to create culturally responsive, community-centered environments that support marginalized populations, including immigrant and refugee communities. Through customized consulting, training, and program development, we help organizations anticipate challenges, prevent harm, and respond with intentionality. Our goal is to dismantle systemic barriers, promote equity and healing, and foster spaces where individuals and communities can thrive.
Chief Executive Officer
Komal Kaur, MSW, CEO (she/her/ella) is a social worker, entrepreneur, and community organizer dedicated to promoting equity, mental health, and systemic change. She leads Zara Consulting Group, guiding organizations to build culturally responsive, community-centered environments that support marginalized populations, including immigrants and refugees.
Professional Background
Komal’s diverse experience includes roles as a special education teacher and community caseworker, where she gained expertise in trauma-induced behaviors, domestic violence, and mental health. She is also the Founder and President of Umeed-Hope, a Sikh-led mutual aid organization advancing collective care, equity, and liberation alongside marginalized communities.
Creative Work & Advocacy
A prolific essayist, children’s book author, and multidisciplinary artist, Komal uses her creative platforms to amplify the voices and experiences of the communities she serves. Her work reflects her commitment to fostering inclusion, empowerment, and systemic change through storytelling, art, and advocacy.
Chief Operating Officer
Jiamia McCoy (she/her/ella) is the Chief Operating Officer of Zara Consulting Group, bringing extensive experience in social work, survivor advocacy, and organizational development. She supports the team in building equitable, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive programs that serve marginalized communities.
Professional Background
Jiamia has worked in the anti-trafficking and anti-exploitation movement for most of her adult life, including as Indiana’s first statewide anti-trafficking social worker. With nearly a decade of experience in legal, non-profit, and higher education sectors, she has provided advocacy, education, and support to survivors of crime. Jiamia is currently a student at IU McKinney School of Law, pursuing her Masters of Jurisprudence, with plans to earn dual MPH/JD degrees. She has taught statewide and nationally on healthy work culture, dismantling anti-Blackness, restorative justice, decolonization, and trauma-informed holistic health.
Personal Life & Advocacy
A collaborative yogi-scholar, Jiamia is a 500-hour certified yoga instructor, doula-in-training, gardener, and lover of history and fiction. As a Muslim woman, she centers intersectionality in her work and is committed to wellness equity through community justice. She grounds her free time in being with her children, family, and friends, reflecting her dedication to both personal and communal well-being.
